Born in Philadelphia, Richard Gabriele’s studio is located nearby in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. He is represented by TW Fine Art in Palm Beach, Florida and received an M.F.A. in Painting from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and a B.A. in Fine Arts and History of Art from Haverford College. His paintings have been exhibited internationally and in numerous museums and have been the subject of high reviews including an essay by eminent art historian Peter Selz (former curator of painting and sculpture at the Museum of Modern Art) comparing his work to 20th century masters such as Franz Marc, Morris Graves, Mark Rothko and Paul Klee.  Gabriele’s work has joined a number of public and private collections around the world, most notably, the Royal Family of Ras Al Khaimah.

Gabriele is presently commissioned for nine stained glass windows spanning nine by eight feet.  The windows, inspired by the Odyssey, will be displayed on the second floor of a building in New York City near Bryant Park and visible from 38th street.

Gabriele is also working on his new portfolio “A Series of Inside Jokes,” which includes artworks that vary dramatically in concept and technique.

The artworks are not iterations of a theme and they do not strive to meet the market’s demand for a signature style. Instead, the concept for each piece stands alone unrelated to the others as a response to a particular author, artist or historical event. There are even a handful that respond to people from the artist's personal life. While some of the works are playful, others are darker reflections of the absurd.

Regarding Gabriele’s break with the conventional “series” format, he claims, “There’s a narrative in the technique and material that is deeply tied to its concept. Addressing numerous concepts  means a unique way must be found for embodying and bringing each one to life.”
